Times-Democrat New Staff On Monday, Sept 5, Labor Day, at 9 a.m.., the signal for the parade to begin will be given. The traditional sirens, horns, and flashing lights will usher in the 82nd version of Labor Day in Rector.
List of books to be featured in 18th year of Serendipity selected
The new list of books to be featured in the 18th year of BRTC’s Serendipity lifelong learning project has been selected. The titles include a blend of works of fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction, and memoirs. Many of the books are new releases including several selections that have won literary awards and critical acclaim.

N2N clean-up effort proves to be a success
Times-Democrat News Staff On a day ordered perfect for N2N (Neighbor 2 Neighbor) workday, the crew of twenty tackled some of the toughest yard assignments in Rector. Answering the call of various neighbors on 6th Street, 3rd Street, Woodland Heights, and East 4th Street plus a major endeavor on Donaldson, the various teams knocked out the tasks.
Bluegrass festival to feature The Dillards
The Bluegrass & Fried Chicken festival is set for Aug. 26 & 27 at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Ark. The Skillet Restaurant located onsite will serve its famous fried chicken buffet in between music shows at the park’s 1,000-seat indoor music venue, Ozark Highlands Theater. The music festival will feature an extended show on Friday night, a Saturday matinee and a Saturday evening extended show featuring the region’s biggest names in bluegrass and top touring bands.

Times-Democrat News Staff Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center along with Inga’s Frame Shop, held a “Matilda Pfeiffer: The Art of Early Photography” event on Friday, Aug. 19 to coincide with National Photography Day.
New innovation competition open to high school students
The Delta Center for Economic Development, based at Arkansas State University, is announcing A-State’s first innovation competition for high school students. With a concept based on the popular “Shark Tank” television series, “Thrown to the Wolves” is a projectbased learning challenge.
