Ballot drawing planned Aug. 26
The ballot draw for the Nov. 8 General Election will be held at 4 p. m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at the courthouse in Piggott. The event is open to the public. All contested candidates are encouraged to attend, or may send a representative in their place. Those wanting additional information about the ballot draw may contact county election coordinator Karen Cagle at 870-240- 3295.

Holmes assumes duties as new Clay County FCS agent
Times-Democrat News Staff Christin Holmes recently accepted the position of Clay County Family and Consumer Service agent with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture after the retirement of agent Debbie Baker. A former teacher and counselor for the Rector School District, Homes is excited to get started on her new pathway.
New Extension Get Fit strength training class underway at Rector Public Library
Extension Get Fit is offering a new strength building exercise class at Rector Public Library at 10 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Classes are $20 for a whole year. Classes are safe and effective for men and women of all ages, including those with health concerns.

Gospel Fest set at Ford Room
Times-Democrat News Staff What’s a Gospel Fest? Singing from the old hymnals used to be a Sunday night standard for the casual evening service. Tent revivals drew people to the aisles when the choruses were raised with praise and hallelujah.
Photography event planned at Pfeiffer Museum
The Matilda Pfeiffer Museum and Inga’s Frame Shop will be co-hosting an event to coincide with National Photography Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. The event will be held at the Matilda & Karl Pfeiffer Museum, 1933 Museum Row in Piggott.
Lunch and Learn to be held Aug. 17
Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch and Learn at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at The Piggott Diner. Shaila Creekmore, from Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Foundation, will be sharing about the program and their work throughout the state. Through scholarships and services, ASPSF opens doors for low-income single parents.

Application deadline approaches for PN programs at Three Rivers College
The application deadline for the one-year Practical Nurse (PN) certificate programs at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff and Sikeston is Oct. 1, with classes beginning in January. The Three Rivers Practical Nurse programs prepare students to sit for the NLCEX PN exam to become a licensed practical nurse. LPNs usually work under the supervision of registered nurses, physicians, and/or dentists and provide simple nursing care for patients who are experiencing common, well-defined health problems. Demand for LPNs is strong now and into the future. The career offers good-paying jobs with good benefits. LPNs who want to continue to advance in their careers can apply to the TRC LPN-RN Bridge program.
