Extension Get Fit is offering a new strength building exercise class at Rector Public Library at 10 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Classes are $20 for a whole year. Classes are safe and effective for men and women of all ages, including those with health concerns.

The Matilda Pfeiffer Museum and Inga’s Frame Shop will be co-hosting an event to coincide with National Photography Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. The event will be held at the Matilda & Karl Pfeiffer Museum, 1933 Museum Row in Piggott.
After weeks of extreme heat and drought conditions, the weekend brought the much-needed rain. However, for some areas it brought a little too much too fast and caused flooding. Many crops are standing in water and water seeped into houses. Sugar Creek flooded Clay Street and the lake at Heritage Park was over its boundaries as well but the rain didn’t deter this hummingbird (right) from visiting the feeder.
A “Peach Topping Preserves” canning class will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Education Center of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum. Class size is limited therefore interested parties should sign up soon. This will be a hands-on class. Attendees will receive a recipe and a jar of the peach preserves to keep. Fifth and Pine Church of Christ in Rector will be hosting a back to school giveaway from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Registered students in grades K-12 of Rector Public Schools who are in need of school supplies are invited to drive by the church building to receive a bag of free school supplies. Students must be accompanied by a parent.
A Beginners Embroidery Workshop has been planned at Powhatan Historic State Park. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, and the registration fee is $15.
