Stories abound inside the Ford Room where the Arkansas Territorial Exhibit is housed along with displays of local early history and geography charts and maps. Those who have visited the exhibit this past week have been most interested in the varying county boundaries, the location of Scatterville, Boydsville, Greenway, Blue Cane, and Chalk Bluff. Towns that once were bustling river ports that are no more (Poke Bayou, Hopefield) have generated memories surrounding family stories and old home sights. Connie Niederkorn knew that Poke Bayou became Batesville, a town rich in Arkansas history. Her family homeplace has been maintained there. Research led to discovering Hopefield was located where Mound City (Fireworks City) across the Mississippi River from Harbor Town in Memphis is located.
