Clay County Health Unit plans immunization clinic

The Clay County Health Unit will be hosting a back to school bash immunization clinic from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9. Walk-ins are welcome or an appointment may be made if desired. They will be offering vaccines that are required for school as well as having a drawing for door prizes. The health unit is located at 1009 South Garfield in Piggott. Anyone wanting additional information may call 870-598-3390 from the hours of 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Local Girl Scout volunteers earn top award

Girl Scout volunteers for the Clay County Service Unit were presented with the President’s Service Unit Gold Award and the 24K Diamonds Trophy on July 23, 2022, at the Girl Scout Diamonds annual award ceremony. Shelby Cox, Volunteer Experience Director and April Schnieder, Volunteer Experience Specialist were on hand to present these awards. Jamie Woods of Piggott, Service Unit Director and Recruitment Coordinator, Jenni McKenney of Piggott, Service Unit Product Manager, and Megan Owens of Corning, Service Unit Treasurer, accepted the awards.

Clay County approved for emergency haying and grazing of CRP

The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), administered by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) is a voluntary program available to agricultural producers to help them safeguard environmentally sensitive land. Producers enrolled in CRP establish longterm, resource-conserving covers to improve the quality of water, control soil erosion, and enhance wildlife habitat. In return, FSA provides participants with rental payments and cost-share assistance.
