The application period for special deer hunting permits on many wildlife management areas in Arkansas is open until 11:59 p.m. July 1, and hunters will notice many new opportunities, thanks to regulations passed during the May Commission meeting.
BRTC’s respiratory therapy (RT) and paramedic programs conducted a Mass Casualty Incident Simulation and Vehicle Extrication Simulation on June 1, 2022. Students worked with ProMed and the Pocahontas Fire Department to test the skills they have learned in a real-world scenario.
Rector School Board met in regular and executive sessions on Monday, June 13, at the Administration Building to handle traditional business for the time between school sessions. Personnel issues occupied the majority of meeting time and were addressed during executive session.
The Arkansas State University Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center and the University of Arkansas partnered on a Tree ID program for the museum. Dr. Vic Ford and his team: Allsion Howell, Stewart Brunswick, Rae Dawson, Jerry Clemons, and Andy Vangilder assisted Director Shannon Williams with the program. Select trees were chosen to age and identify on the grounds. The trees ranged from 60 - 150 years of age. The trees will be a part of an outdoor exhibit. After working at the Clay County Extension Office for 18 years, FCS agent Debbie Baker has retired. A surprise retirement celebration was held Wednesday, June 8 at the Piggott First Baptist Church.. A slideshow of Baker was shown while the attendees enjoyed the delicious meal provided. The venue was beautifully decorated as family, friends and co-workers, past and present, were on hand to congratulate her. The Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) has developed Active Shooter Training for Educators. This curriculum contains the most current guidelines established by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Early voting in the runoff election for the Piggott School Board position is underway. Voters may cast their early votes at the Piggott Community Center from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Monday June 20. Election day is Tuesday, June 21, and the polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. with voting at the Piggott Community Center.
