Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center is happy to welcome author Matt Gallagher of Tulsa, Okla., as this year’s writerin-residence. Gallagher will be living and working in Piggott for the month of June. A native of Reno, Nev., Gallagher has lived in many places, and served in the Army which included a tour of Iraq.
Piggott First Baptist Church has been blessed the past two Sundays as Freddie Bowen has filled in as preacher for the congregation. Bowen will again be preaching at the Sunday, June 19 services. The Rector School District is once-again taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding Program this year. Under the program, lunch and breakfast will be served at the Rector School cafeteria to anyone free of charge 18 years and younger. Rector will be offering the meals starting June 1, and running through July 29. No meals will be served the week of July 4 through 8.
Once again, a full schedule of pageants from birth to 20 years will accompany the Piggott Fourth of July picnic. The first three pageants will be held the evening of July 3, with the remainder being held on July 4. All pageants will be held on the stage at the picnic grounds.
1982 Contestants are needed for the “Miss Piggott” beauty revue to be held Saturday, July 3rd during the annual Piggott Picnic and Homecoming celebration. Entry fee is $10.
New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard is hosting Vacation Bible School beginning today, Wednesday, June 15, and will continue each Wednesday night through July 20. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Spark Studios” as those attending will have their imagination ignited and creativity awakened. Classes are available for preschool through youth.
