Rector City Council handled an agenda of regular business items and introduced the possibilities of several new ordinances while in the monthly session on Monday, June 6, at the Rector Community Center.
The Sugar Creek Country Club hosted its annual two-gal scramble golf tournament on Wednesday, June 1 with twenty teams taking part in the 18-hole event. A delicious lunch was served after play.
The Piggott School District Board of Directors met in special session at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in the district board room. All board members were present and Brad Dunlap moved to waive the reading of the minutes of the regular board meeting held on May 10 and the two special meetings held on May 10 and 17, 2022.
Once again, a full schedule of pageants from birth to 20 years will accompany the Piggott Fourth of July picnic. The first three pageants will be held the evening of July 3, with the remainder being held on July 4. All pageants will be held on the stage at the picnic grounds.
The Piggott Public Library held their first summer reading program on Wednesday, June 1 with the theme Community Helpers. There were 66 children and adults that attended the program. Piggott Fire Department, Piggott Police Department and Piggott Ambulance Service were among those on hand to tell about their jobs and allowed the attendees to get a close up look inside the firetruck, ambulance and police car. Clay County Health Unit, Delta Population Health Institute, Piggott FBLA, and lifeguards from the Piggott City Pool were also a part of the program. The public testing, and logic and accuracy test, for the upcoming June 21 Piggott School Board Run- Off Election, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 11. The testing will be conducted at the Corning election warehouse, located at 435 Southwest Second Street in Corning. The testing is open to the public. Those wanting additional information may contact Clay County Election Coordinator Karen Cagle at 870-240-3295.
Zane Holloway of Rector, was among more than 1,300 students recently named to the spring 2022 Dean’s List at the University of Central Arkansas. Eligibility on the Dean’s List requires at least a 3.5 GPA with a minimum course load of 12 credit hours.
Early voting in the runoff election for Piggott School Board starts Tuesday, June 14. Voters may cast their early votes at the Piggott Community Center from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Monday June 20. On election day, Tuesday, June 21 polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
