The Piggott School Board met in special session at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 26, in the district board room with board member Jim Threatt absent. Board minutes and financial statements were waived until the next regularly scheduled board meeting and new business was addressed.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center in Piggott will host its Summer 2022 Writer’s Retreat June 13 through the 17. The retreat will be held in the education center and the Hemingway barn-studio and will offer writers the opportunity to work under the direction of a professional mentor.
Turnout was light for the 2022 preferential primary election held Tuesday, May 24 with only 2,457 of the 7,629 registered voters casting ballots. A total of 2,296 ballots were cast in the Republican Primary, another 138 in the Democratic and 23 Nonpartisan.
A large turnout of both entries and spectators turned out Saturday for the 23rd edition of the Piggott Heritage Car Show. Activities kicked-off Friday with the traditional chicken wing dinner served to participants at the First National Bank pavilion, with the majority of those who arrived early taking advantage of the fare courtesy of FNB.
Memorial Day will be marked this coming weekend with special observances and activities. Both Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector, and Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Piggott, will be hosting their annual business meetings and special ceremonies.
Four Rector High School students are honored to be recommended and selected as an Arkansas Boys and Girls State delegate. This year’s selected delegates are: Kaley Isom, daughter of Sam and Mandy Isom, and Isabella Mosley, daughter of David and Christina Mosley, for Arkansas Girls State. Landon Haywood, son of Chris and Shannon Haywood, and Evan Holmes, son of Chad and Christin Holmes, for Arkansas Boys State.
Beginning May 16, BRTC began following summer hours. Campuses will be open from 7 a.m.

The 2022 PHS graduation ceremony took a solemn turn as the three empty chairs behind the graduates were recognized. Principal Paul Seegraves called out the names of the three young men of the Class of 2022 who were called home before they graduated. A moment of silence was held for Matthew Brown, Gabe Templeman and Hunter Midkiff. Their families were presented roses and their diplomas after the graduation ceremony. (TD photo/Gayla Johnson)
