CLAY COUNTY CATTLEMEN’S SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

The Clay County Cattlemen’s Association is proud to announce Carly Robinson of Rector High School as the recipient of this year’s CCCA Scholarship. She plans to attend Black River Technical College to major in Animal Science. Her goal is to obtain her degree and assist in her family cattle operation. As a student, Carly was active in FFA, softball, basketball, Math Club, Science Club and Pep Club. She is the daughter of Dawn Martin and Ward Robinson. Members of the CCA Scholarship Committee presenting the Certificate were Kenny Collier and Sherry Dills. Additional scholarship committee members are Dale Grimes, Randy Anders and Dillan Hartsfield.

Application period opens for Arkansas Heritage grants

Community-based nonprofit groups and others interested in supporting the mission of Arkansas Heritage are encouraged to apply for Arkansas Heritage Grants. Arkansas Heritage is a division of the Department of Arkansas Parks, Heritage and Tourism which identifies, preserves and promotes our state’s cultural, historic and natural resources as a source of pride and enjoyment for all.

RHS basketball players recognized

Coach Matt Mills and Assistant Coach Isaiah Ritter presented these basketball awards at the Rector Athletic Banquet held on May 10 at the Rector High School gymnasium. Junior High Boys: Colton Haywood, Newcomer of the Year; Lane Hemphill, Most Improved; Hayden Vavak, Cougar Pride; Kolton Watson, Defensive MVP; Cash Lindsey, Most Rebounds and Offensive MVP; Austin Simmons, Most 3’s and Lucas Morrow, Hustle award.

Additional funds aid efforts to remove feral hogs from Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is pleased to announce that additional funding has been made available to assist with feral hog eradication efforts in Arkansas. Senator John Boozman was instrumental in securing $650,000 in federal funding through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022 for the Arkansas Department of Agriculture to implement additional eradication efforts across the state. Additionally, the Buffalo River Conservation Committee (BRCC) allocated $74,960 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services (USDA Wildlife Services) to expand eradication efforts within the Buffalo River watershed.

Free fishing days to be observed in June

Residents and nonresidents may fish anywhere in Arkansas noon Friday, June 10, until midnight Sunday night, June 12, without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed. An annual tradition sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and approved by Gov. Hutchinson, Free Fishing Weekend gives many people the opportunity to enjoy the amazing angling The Natural State has to offer.

Memorial Day closings slated

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all federal, state, county and local offices will be closed on Monday, May 30. The closures include both Clay County courthouses, the three county libraries, all local city halls along with state and federal government offices.
