Rector Chamber of Commerce banquet held

As guest speaker Arkansas Democrat-Gazette favorite columnist and senior editor Rex Nelson concluded his remarks at the Rector Area Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday night he said, “My remarks are intended to encourage people. Tonight, however, you have encouraged me. This crowd of people who make things happen in Rector has infused me with all those things that make me optimistic about small towns in Arkansas, and Arkansas as a whole.”

Nelson provides decades of Arkansas history

Rex Nelson, senior editor and a favorite columnist with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, provided a capsule history of Arkansas in decades of troubling times with a bright look to the future. He is a much-acclaimed speaker and promoter for Arkansas and is tied to just about every section of the state because he makes friends everywhere he visits. Hailing from Arkadelphia, “he’s been everywhere, man.”

Rector City Council handles light agenda

At the regular City Council meeting held at 7 p.m. at the Rector Community Center on Monday May 2, Rector City Council approved Ordinance 570 which states that District Court will be held at the Clay County Eastern District Courthouse for judicial district 17 at a time to be determined by the local judge. As the location of the court proceedings will only affect convenience and not any revenue, the council voted to give preference to the judge. Therefore, at an announced time in 2023, court proceedings will be located in the courthouse at Piggott.
