PES kindergarten registration slated

Piggott Elementary School will be enrolling children eligible for kindergarten for the 2025- 26 school year from 8: 30 a. m. to 2: 30 p. m. on Wednesday, March 12. The registration will be held in the PES parent center. Parents or guardians bringing a child to be enrolled should also bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization records, social security card, and a proof of residence. Students enrolling must be five years old on or before Aug. 1. Those wanting more information may contact the PES office at 870- 5982546.

Elvis impersonator captivates large crowd at Ford Room

Triggering flashbacks to the eras of Elvis, Finley Watkins brought the action, the swoons, good humor, and a synced array of nostalgic still photos and liveaction to the Ford Room on Friday night, Feb. 21. Prior to the show, which was sponsored by Glen Sain Motors and Recurrent Solar Energy, a fish plate dinner was enjoyed by over 70 ticket holders. The Recurrent Solar Energy group donated to the fish dinner, bringing the ticket price to $25 per person. Brad Green cooked the fish, Pat Thompson baked homemade Parker House rolls, and Mavis Smith added her culinary touch with her signature banana pudding dessert. The crowd was happy and conversational even before Finley Watkins, Elvis Tribute Artist, took the stage.

CCSD arrest Piggott man on drug charges

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Friday, Feb. 14, at approximately 9:22 a.m., a deputy went to 1324 County Road 461 to try and serve a felony warrant on an individual for violation of his parole. After making contact with someone at the residence, a subject ran out the back door. The deputy recognized the subject and began chasing him on foot. When the deputy caught up to the sub-ject he had to deploy his Taser to place the subject in custody. During the foot pursuit the subject had thrown a small baggy with a crystal substance on the ground. The subject, 22-year-old Jayger Harmon of Piggott was transported to the Clay County Detention Center where he was booked on possession of controlled substance I or II less than 2 gram, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and fleeing.
