The Clay County Quorum Court met at the Piggott Courthouse on Tuesday, Jan. 22 with Justices Patrick Patterson, Dennis Haines, David Hatcher, Brad Green, Randy Kingston, David Cagel and Jody Henderson present. Justices Neal Smith and George Lowe were absent.
In a public service announcement, posted on the Rector Police Department’s Facebook, it was noted that the department had been made aware of fraudulent phone calls from scammers being made to Rector area residents using the Rector Police Department’s phone number.
The Piggott City Council met on Thursday, Jan. 23 with council members Tracy Cole, Kevin Jones and Jamey Parks in attendance. Councilman Jeff Benbrook was absent.
Place fourth in overall competition
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports than on Jan. 18 a Clay County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle between Piggott and St. Francis on U.S. 62. The vehicle refused to pull over and turned onto CR 346 heading west. The vehicle was traveling over 60 mph on the gravel road. The deputy did not want the vehicle to make it back to Piggott or turn into the hills at this speed. The deputy performed a T.V.I. (tactical ve-hicle intervention) on the vehicle, which caused it to go into the ditch.
