Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, Aug. 26 at approximately 12:45 a.m. a Clay County Deputy was leaving the Corning Police Department when he noticed a vehicle being driven partially in the turn lane northbound on U.S. 67. The vehicle was behind a semi-truck. The deputy pulled out behind the vehicle and observed the vehicle swerve several times into the turn lane. The deputy noted he thought the vehicle was going to pass the semi. After the vehicles went through the stop light the deputy noticed the vehicle, a blue 2024 Jeep Gladiator, had a temporary tag that had expired on July 29, 2024.

Trial by Jury planned at Powhatan State Park

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Join park staff and become the judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as they bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in and interact with each other. Space is limited and registration is required with the fee set at $25. Registration fee is $25. Clay County Fair nears, parade set for Sept. 10

The Clay County Fair will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 11 through 14, at the fairgrounds in Piggott. Keeping with recent tradition, the annual pageants will be held in conjunction with the fair Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Baby Mr. and Miss Clay County pageants, and will continue throughout the day. High speed chase results in arrests

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department recently reported at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, a Clay County Deputy was sitting west of Corning on CR 131 and U.S. 67 when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 67. The deputy pulled in behind the vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, and paced it at 85 miles per hour. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated to over 100 miles per hour. As they entered Randolph County, the vehicle turned off its lights.

Constitution Road Trip planned at Powhatan

Powhatan Historic State Park will host the Constitution Road Trip travelling exhibit from the Arkansas State Archives on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday. Sept. 14 at the Powhatan Courthouse. Join park staff and state archivists to view original pages from Arkansas’s several state constitutions. This exhibit will give visitors a front-row view of Arkansas’s changing history through its primary legal document. This is a free event, no registration is required.
