New event planned at Clay County Fair
A new event has been added to the Clay County Fair this year as Barrel Races will be featured on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Training for the event will begin at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Among the events offered will be training barrels, peewee barrels for children eight and under, youth 3D, adult 3D sidepot and open 4D barrels. Fall into Arts Festival returns to Kennett
Fall into Arts Festival returns to downtown Kennett on Saturday, Sept. 7. Celebrating its 15th year, the festival will transform the courthouse square and surrounding streets into a hub of artistic expression from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Entries sought for fair parade
As in times past, the annual Clay County Fair Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, Aug. 26 at approximately 12:45 a.m. a Clay County Deputy was leaving the Corning Police Department when he noticed a vehicle being driven partially in the turn lane northbound on U.S. 67. The vehicle was behind a semi-truck. The deputy pulled out behind the vehicle and observed the vehicle swerve several times into the turn lane. The deputy noted he thought the vehicle was going to pass the semi. After the vehicles went through the stop light the deputy noticed the vehicle, a blue 2024 Jeep Gladiator, had a temporary tag that had expired on July 29, 2024.
Clay County Fair pageant schedule announced
The schedule for the 2024 Clay County Fair has been set. This year’s fair will kick-off with the usual pageants on Saturday, Sept. 7, although the majority of events are being held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 11 to 14 with the parade set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
