The Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center have added four new sculptures to their collection this year. Along with the amazing mineral collection, Native American Artifact Collection, and the outdoor museum, guest can now enjoy some new added pieces.
As in times past, the annual Clay County Fair Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 11 to 14, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air conditioned and include electrical hook-ups. The schedule for the 2024 Clay County Fair has been set. This year’s fair will kickoff with the usual pageants on Saturday, Sept. 7, although the majority of events are being held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 11 to 14 with the parade set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
A new event has been added to the Clay County Fair this year as Barrel Races will be featured on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Training for the event will begin at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Among the events offered will be training barrels, peewee barrels for children eight and under, youth 3D, adult 3D sidepot and open 4D barrels. The Clay County Extension Office hosted a mental health and wellbeing fair at the Piggott First General Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 22 with approximately 47 people in attendance.
Piggott Health System was recently presented with the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Coronary Artery Disease Rural Recognition Silver award for their implementation of quality treatment, care coordination for cardiac patients. PHS was recognized for its commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing non STelevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).
PHS Class of 1974 will celebrate their 50th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Strawberry Event Center at 107 Main, Holcomb, Mo. Buffet meal and drink is $25 per person with cash bar available. Money will be paid at the door.
All poultry to be entered in the Clay County Fair, set to begin Sept. 11, must be tested negative for Pullorum-Thyphoid within the 90 days prior to the fair to comply with Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission regulations. Testing and pre-registration will only be done from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, in the show barn at the fairgrounds.
