Entries sought for Clay County Fair Parade

As in times past, the annual Clay County Fair Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Old Timers Dinner planned at Nimmons

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

Ballot drawing set Friday

The Clay County Board of Election Commissioners has announced that the ballot draw for the Nov. 9, 2024, General Election will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the Clay County Courthouse in Piggott. The public is invited to attend. Any questions about this matter should be directed to the Clay County Election Coordinator, Karen Cagle, at (870) 240-3295.

Poultry testing for fair set Aug. 24

All poultry to be entered in the Clay County Fair, set to begin Sept. 11, must be tested negative for Pullorum-Thyphoid within the 90 days prior to the fair to comply with Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission regulations. Testing and pre-registration will only be done from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, in the show barn at the fairgrounds. Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum celebrates 25th anniversary

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum celebrated its 25th anniversary with the community of Piggott on July 4, participating in the town’s Independence Day celebration. On Saturday, Aug. 10, the museum followed up their celebration with a formal banquet held at the Sugar Creek Country Club. The banquet was 1920s themed and among those in attendance were supporters and participants from the 25 year history of the museum.
