Lapidary Capital Group purchases Piggott and Rector Sonics
On Monday, July 1, Sonic franchisee group, DHR (Davis, Hull and Rowden) sold four of their stores to Lapidary Capital Group, two of these stores being right here in Clay County. Along with stores in West Helena and Dumas, Piggott and Rector Sonics were part of the deal.

Need for new radios discussed at QC meeting
Clay County Quorum Court met on Monday, July 15 at the courthouse in Piggott with justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, David Hatcher, George Lowe, Neal Smith, Randy Kingston, Brad Green and David Cagle in attendance and Justice Jody Henderson absent.

1984 The low bid of Cooper Construction Co., of Jonesboro was accepted Thursday night by the Piggott School Board for construction of a new Middle School building. Cooper’s base bid of $422,800 was the lowest of five opened by the Board during the special meeting.

FOIA effort falls short of total but qualified in 50 counties; APA vows a second effort for 2026
Little Rock, Ark. — Representatives of FOIA BQCs andArkansas PressAssociation officials announced today that their effort to place a constitutional amendment and initiated act on the November 5 ballot had fallen just short of the required number of signatures while collecting the necessary number from the 50 counties, indicating broad support and a strong organization. Supporters also announced an intent to refile their constitutional amendment proposal and begin collecting signatures for the 2026 election.
Handcrafted Evening at the Ozark Folk Center State Park
A handcrafted evening in the Ozark Folk Center State Park Craft Village is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 26. Admission to the Craft Village is free for this evening event. There is plenty of parking in the lower lot, and free shuttle will carry you to the village on the top of the hill.
Powhatan Historic State Park to host Basket Weaving Workshop
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Basket Weaving Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 19. Park staff will teach participants how to make a hearth basket. The registration fee covers all material and supplies.
Reading retreat planned for two A-State Heritage Sites this fall
A reading retreat is planned for this fall at two of the Arkansas State University Heritage Sites. The retreat will be held at The Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home and Southern Tenant Farmers Museum.
