Veteran town hall scheduled in Paragould July 18
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will host an informational town hall event July 18 at the VFW Post 2242, located at 4273 Highway 49 North in Paragould.
Entergy Arkansas bill assistance now available through LIHEAP
Entergy Arkansas customers who need help paying their summer energy bills can apply now for up to $475 through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) on a first come, first served basis.The program’s application period opens July 8 and runs through Sept. 30 or until funds are expended.

Clay County Sheriff ’s Dept. makes multiple arrests
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, July 1 at approximately 12:40 p.m. they made a traffic stop on Hwy. 90 east of Hwy. 139 at Holly Island. When the deputy made contact with the driver, 44-yearold Jason David Jones of Paragould, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A check was run on the driver, and it was found that he was on probation with a search waiver on file. A search was conducted on the vehicle and Jones was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked on the charges of possession of SCH VI LT 4 oz. and forgery. Jones was in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill.
Full schedule awaits visitors at annual St. Francis Picnic
In keeping with their longstanding tradition, a full slate of pageants, food and fun is set for the annual St. Francis Picnic, being held this Saturday, July 20, to benefit the Hall and Gravel Hill cemeteries. The popular event is held the third Saturday of each July at the picnic grounds in St. Francis, with events and activities going on throughout the day.
Crops Field Day Tours set for Clay County July 24-25
The annual Clay County Field Day Tours will be held Wednesday, July 24 (West) and Thursday, July 25 (East). This year’s tours will showcase demonstrations of new corn hybrids, rice, soybean and new cotton varieties. Extension specialists will be on hand to give production updates. In addition, seed company representatives will provide information regarding their products. NRCS will also be on hand to give updates on their programs.

Ramsons Arts Partnership donates to WBU’s Startup Chapel renovation
Williams Baptist University has announced a $5,000 donation from the Ramsons Arts Partnership, a charity that is being launched by Ramsons Construction of Jonesboro, Ark., to support arts in the region.
Piggott School Board holds special called meeting
The Piggott School Board held a special called meeting on Friday, July 12 at 8 a.m. for correction in the price for the furniture for the Lil Mohawk Daycare. Jacob Richardson, Fallon Winscott, Rob Chandler and Kristen Gurley were present with board president Jennifer Rahn absent.
