On Saturday, July 14, 2024, the Historic Rodgers Theatre and Event Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo., is introducing the first of several Silver Screen Sunday 2 p.m. Matinees. The first movie is, ‘A Face in the Crowd’. Released in 1957, ‘A Face in the Crowd’ stars Andy Griffith in his first movie role, along with Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau, and Lee Remick.

The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host a drive-thru commodity distribution in Clay County on Wednesday, July 17 The distribution will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Rector Community Center, 740 East Ninth Street, Rector and from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Agape Mission Outreach, 501 S.W. Second Street in Corning. Both locations will be held until food runs out.

Registrations are still being accepted for the Pollard Beauty Contests, being held in conjunction with this week’s annual picnic. The 2024 Pollard Picnic will be held Saturday, July 13, at Pollard and will benefit the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery. In keeping with tradition, fried chicken dinners, music, softball games, games for children and beauty pageants will highlight the picnic. Recently, the organizers announced the following schedule.
Rector City Council met on Monday, July 1, at 6 p.m., at the Rector Community Center. Next month, August, the Council will meet on its new date, the second Thursday of the month, Aug. 8, time remaining at 6 p.m., and place remaining as Rector Community Center. The council addressed several categories needing to be finalized. A quorum existed. Council member Jamie Diddle was absent.
The annual Clay County Field Day Tours will be held Wednesday, July 24 (West) and Thursday, July 25 (East). This year’s tours will showcase demonstrations of new corn hybrids, rice, soybean and new cotton varieties. Extension specialists will be on hand to give production updates. In addition, seed company representatives will provide information regarding their products. NRCS will also be on hand to give updates on their programs.
Thursday, July 4 marked the 25th anniversary of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott. The event was celebrated with an open house from 1 until 3 p.m.
