
Rector Elementary School holds sixth grade promotion program

The traditional Honors Day for Rector High School brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members. Held Friday, May 17, 9 a.m., awards and recognition were presented across the spectrum of the RHS academic program. Prior to the beginning of the full program, Angela Blankenship, representing the legacy of her daughter Hannah, who spent her best days involved with FFA, reminded the audience of the desire Hannah had for a future in agriculture business. Hannah died in a tragic car/ truck wreck, January 2018, on Hwy. 62 just east of Corning. The family presented the first Hannah Blankenship Memorial Scholarship to Rector FFA leader Joslin Ward.
An Arkansas State University professor in the College of Agriculture is part of a team that has received a grant of nearly $300,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
On Monday night, May 20, the Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session at the courthouse in Piggott with all justices in attendance. After roll call, motion was made and passed to waive the reading of the previous month’s minutes.
The following Rector Elementary students were named to the Honor Roll for the fourth nine weeks: First Grade Sherry Cate’s class: Nash Blount, Ean Causbie, Lane Hunter, Christian Mero, and Allison Sheets.
Piggott City Council met at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 for a public hearing regarding property condemnations. With all council members present, the council gave the owners of property located at 833 Taylor and the owners of property located at 161 N. 12th, six months to work on their property and to have an update on the progress in two months. Property located at 431 S. Garfield was tabled until next month and the council approved to go ahead with condemnation on property located at 361 W. Kay and 285 S. 10th. The meeting then adjourned.
Rector Elementary School celebrated on May 21, at 9 a.m. with parent, grandparents, friends and community members as an especially large group of kindergarten students participated in the traditional kindergarten graduation ceremony.
Rector’s Class of 2024 participated in commencement exercises on Sunday afternoon, May 19, at the Rector High School gym. Valedictorian Drew Henderson led the audience in the Pledge of Al-legiance and offered the invocation.
