Piggott Elementary School PACE Odyssey of the Mind teams has once again qualified for state competition. The teams competed Saturday, March 8 at the Regional tournament at Brookland with Problem 5 team winning first place and Problem 3 team winning third place.

Black RiverArea Development Corporation has announced the winter regular assistance program will close on Monday, March 31. Applications for winter crisis assistance will continue until Wednesday, April 30 or until funds are depleted. Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m., on the second and fourth Mondays at the Piggott Community Center located at 161 E. Due to inclement weather, the regular meeting of the Clay County Quorum Court for the month of February was held on Monday, March 3 at the courthouse in Corning with Justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, David Hatcher, George Lowe, Randy Kingston, Jody Henderson and Brad Green present. Justices Neal Smith and David Cagle were absent.

Velma Pritchett turned 100 years old on Feb. 21 and was honored with a drop in birthday celebration on Sat. Feb. 22 with over 300 friends and relatives dropping by to offer their best wishes.
A Rector man was arrested after Rector Police Department received a call about a male subject walking outside a residence with a knife, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.
Rector City Council met Feb. 13 at the Rector Community Center. The first order of business was from the Zoning Commission that reported awarding a variance to Bryne Koehn who requested approval of his rezoning request. Koehn had spoken with neighbors and had held a public meeting and no opposition was heard. The Council will move forward with the zoning ordinance.
