New utility board members approved at Piggott City Council meeting
The Piggott City Council met in regular session on Monday, July 28 with members Jeff Benbrook, Tracy Cole and Jamey Parks in attendance. Council member Kevin Jones was absent.
Rector Planning and Zoning Commission holds public meeting regarding land use
Rector Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on Thursday, July 31, at the Rector Community Center. The members of the Commission, Greg Bohr, Farren Young, and chair Jeremy Jackson were present which constitutes a quorum. The purpose of the meeting was the proposal of a comprehensive Land Use Plan for the City of Rector for the upcoming five years. The ordinances related to Planning and Zoning that the city is currently using were created and passed into law in the 1980s. In the past several months, the City Council has had reason to examine the ordinances in detail and found them to be out of date, vague in wording, and in some cases, contradictory.

Langley, Wooldridge entertain at Ford Room in Rector
Entertainment rang through the Ford Room thanks to Emma Langley and her tremendous performance. Allen Wooldridge impressed the crowd with exciting accompaniment and showed his own prowess on the guitar with riffs and crazy techniques.

Tax free weekend at hand as back-to-school draws near
With back-to-school time just around the corner, another traditional event is set for the coming weekend as Arkansas will hold its annual sales tax holiday on specific items Satur-day and Sunday, Aug. 2 and 3.
Rector Board hears district’s financial report
Rector School Board met Monday, July 14, at the Administration Building and heard from Superintendent Johnny Fowler regarding the district’s financial report. Concluding the Arkansas School Board fiscal year at the conclusion of June, 2025, the board saw the end balances related to salaries, operating fund, and all areas related at zero balance. The report for July 14 for period 1 shows an operating fund of $424,130.07. The building fund balance is $4,779,764.35. When combined with cafeteria funds and federal funds, the total assets are $5,482,831.08.
Greenway Picnic set Aug. 2, pageant schedule announced
The 95th edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 2, at the community’s picnic grounds and will feature the traditional slate of beauty pageants.

L&L Manquest revisits Piggott for a meet and greet at fairgrounds
L&L Manquest, Joshua, Tara, Levi, Lucas White and Pilot, the family from Nevada who touched the hearts of Piggott residents as well as people across the United States, returned to Piggott for a visit on their way home. Friends the family made while here earlier gathered at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Thursday for a meet and greet question and answer session to hear about their adventures since leaving Piggott.

The Selection Committee of the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the 2025 inductees into the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame. The organization has four categories from which inductees may be selected: athletes, coaches, teams, and other.
