Rector School Board renews certified staff contracts

Rector School Board met as customary on the second Monday of the month, March 11, at the Rector School District Administrative Building at 5:30 p.m., with all members present. Elementary Principal Mark Manchester reported the visit of literacy consultants and coaches whose work with teachers was “intense.” An initial review and administration of the new ATLAS testing program was undertaken with the writing portion being given in the previous week.

Isn’t it funny how you wake up one morning expecting your day to go one way when in return it plays out totally differently? Last Tuesday, when I arrived at the Pocahontas Star Herald office, situated in a 1900 train depot just a couple of hundred feet from the banks of the flowing Black River, I took a seat at my desk and began to get things situated for my day. Being the editor of the paper is a job I love, however, it’s my role as the editor-inchief of Arkansas Crossroads that really gets my creative juices flowing.

Wintertime is upon us, and we have spent the week after Thanksgiving taking down all of our pumpkins and fall leaves and hanging up our Christmas lights and setting up our trees! As the temperature drops you need to take the drive up here to stay warm and look around our festive cabin of a Welcome Center. It’s that time of year again for the Arkansas Trail of Holiday Lights and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday season in northeast Arkansas.

Those farmers are burning again

October brings the unmistakable chill of autumn, converting the atmosphere into what fanatics of fall fondly dub sweater weather. It’s also the season when the aroma of pumpkin spice invades stores and homes and farmers conclude their harvest. However, this time of the year has an unexpected guest: controversy, fueled by uninformed opinions on agriculture, specifically concerning the burning of fields, posted generously on social media platforms by “experts.”

ARKANSAS WELCOME CENTER AT CORNING Fall is officially here! We’ve got our seasonal decorations switched over and hopefully the temperature, as with the leaves, will start to fall here soon. In the spirit of Halloween, a yellow garden spider has made her home here at the Welcome Center.
