The Piggott Little League baseball and softball teams hosted the Clay County Tournament this past weekend. 12U, 10U and 8U All Star teams from Piggott, Rector, Corning, and Marmaduke competed in the week long tournament.
To open the Rector High School Spring Athletic Honors program, Michele Haley represented Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame to present scholarships and announce the ongoing commitment to support of RHS athletic programs. Eight applicants received assistance through scholarships from the top amount of $1000 to $250 book stipends.
Rector’s Diamond Cougars played in one of the best high school baseball games between two conference rivals on Saturday, May 4, the Cougars and the Riverside Rebels playing for conference honors and seeding in the Arkansas State Tournament. Numerous memorable plays such as back-to-back double plays in successive innings highlighted the game. Each blue-clad Cougar stretched farther, ran faster, and made plays in the field to give pitcher Ashton Scott solid back-up during each inning. Scott pitched six scoreless innings, the most of his career. Throws to pick off Riverside runners in the second and third innings gave fans plenty of reason to cheer.
After an 8:30 a.m. send-off from the RHS campus on Thursday morning, May 9, the Rector Cougars arrived at Forrest City Sports Center for the 2A State baseball tournament, hosted by Palestine-Wheatley.

Rector’s Cougar baseball team swung hot bats during the district game at home against Bay Yellowjackets. Cooper Rabjohn pitched a complete game, allowing no runs with 9 K’s for the game.
Lady Mohawks compete in District track: Russell, NobleRomero qualify for state Two Piggott Lady Mohawk track members recently competed in the District Track Meet. Senior standout Alyssa Russell ran first in the 300 meter hurdles, first in the 200 meter dash, second in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the high jump and third in the 4x100 relay where she received the senior girls high point award.
Rector Lady Cougars played for District standing and a place in the Regional Tournament last week. The important district game against Cross County brought Rector bats alive and fielding was top-notch. Rylee Wilburn continued as pitcher, hurling every pitch of every game.
