Lady Mohawks compete in District track: Russell, NobleRomero qualify for state Two Piggott Lady Mohawk track members recently competed in the District Track Meet. Senior standout Alyssa Russell ran first in the 300 meter hurdles, first in the 200 meter dash, second in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the high jump and third in the 4x100 relay where she received the senior girls high point award.
Rector Lady Cougars played for District standing and a place in the Regional Tournament last week. The important district game against Cross County brought Rector bats alive and fielding was top-notch. Rylee Wilburn continued as pitcher, hurling every pitch of every game.
The senior high Lady Mohawks split a double header against Manila on Thursday, April 18. The ladies won the second game of the evening with a score of 16-6.
The National Wrestling Federation will present Mohawk Madness at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Piggott High School gym. The event is a fundraiser for the Piggott Mohawk Cheerleaders. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the cheerleading squad or by calling 870--598-3815. Senior softball players for Rector Cougars, Emmah Tarno and Chloe Baugh, four year players, along with second- year manager Joslin Ward were recognized prior to the final regular season game on Friday afternoon. The Lady Cougars played against EPC Lady Warriors battled for seed in the district tournament which begins next week.
Five senior players introduced by Coach Robert Dorman Monday afternoon were kindergarteners in Dorman’s first P.E. class.
The Piggott Mohawk senior high baseball team played a rare Saturday game against the Cooter Wildcats on April 13. Before the game, the team honored the seniors who were playing their final home game.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted the Randolph County Classic on its Pocahontas campus. Approximately 200 area students attended the event and 16 FFA organizations participated in the contest.
