Cougars lose to Riverside

With the April 1 win over Corning, the Rector Cougars began a powerful display on the diamond with Chance Lopez taking the win on the mound against the Bobcats. Drew Henderson pitched in scoreless relief, according to Coach Robert Dorman.

Mohawk reunion planned

A reunion of the Piggott Mohawk Football teams from the 1960’s (Zig Williams era) will be held at Sugar Creek Country Club at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The cost for attendance will be $100.00. Proceeds from the event will go to the Piggott High School Sports Hall of Fame and Mohawk Centennial Program that will be presented during the 2026 football season.

Lady Mohawks beat by Rector at home

The Rector Lady Cougars made their way to Piggott Tuesday, April 9 to play against the Piggott Lady Mohawks. Thyme Parrish started on the mound for the Lady Mohawks with the first pitch thrown being hit to left field for a single. The second batter hit a ball just over the pitchers head and into center field securing her place at first base and the lead off runner at second. With two on base and nobody out, the third batter hit a triple all the way to the fence in center field scoring two runs. Another hit passed the second baseman into center scored another run for the Cougars. The Lady Mohawks got their first out after the next batter hit a double up the middle, but the runner from second was tagged out coming to third base. Three more runs would score in the inning after a walk and a while pitch.

Arkansas Legislative 3-On-3 Charity Basketball Tournament set

Arkansas House of Representatives members will square off against their Senate counterparts for a worthwhile cause, “Hoops for Kids’ Sake,” benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas (BBBSCA) and the Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC) of Arkansas. The ninth modern-era charity basketball game will occur Monday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Eddie L. Boone & Oliver Fitzpatrick, Jr. Fieldhouse at Little Rock Central High School.

Faulkner has long love of sports

Involved in many aspects of youth sports development programs to include coaching and umpiring, refereeing, and cheering the efforts of young people, Kenny Faulkner is the epitome of being there when and where he is needed. He loves sports and knows instinctually the lessons young people learn from involvement in such programs.

Cougar baseball and softball teams successful

Rector baseball and softball teams have been successful lately in defeats of BIC Mustangs and Bay Yellowjackets in quick succession on the home diamonds. Both teams had hot bats and showed strong base running and quick steals to get into scoring positions. Hits that dropped just right into the gap, just left of the right field line allowed base hits for the batter and quick scores for the base runners.
