Cougars devour Brinkley Tigers for homecoming
Serving as captains for the Rector Cougars on Friday, Oct 6, homecoming game against the Brinkley Tigers were Lawson Nixon and Grayson Bryant who called it right and elected to receive as Suncom began their live stream of the game via their app and Facebook. The stands were packed with fans, many former football players attending for the halftime presentation honoring 50 years of Rector football.

Junior Cougars notch win over Brinkley
With the homecoming clock ticking down the final minutes of the junior high Cougar contest with the junior high Brinkley Tigers, Rector’s Austin Avery flashed past the line of scrimmage and up the middle, into the open for another Rector junior high Cougar touchdown. The scoreboard flashed 40 for Rector and 16 for Brinkley. Within a few minutes, though, a Brinkley Tiger broke loose for a score and two-point conversion to bring the final score to 40 – 24. Coach Robert Dorman signaled “run the clock” and the rough and tumble game ended with a junior high Rector Cougar Homecoming victory.

Former football coach Paul Temerian honored
Coach Paul Temerian led the Cougar football program from 1985 through 1993 and established, according to research by Ron Kemp, a record and tradition being continued by athletes today. Prior to the resumption of football in 1973, the Rector program had not had a winning season. Coach Temerian’s first squad went 2-6-1. After that initial struggle, Coach Temerian led the football program with only one other losing season in the nine years as varsity coach.

Celebrating 50 years of football at Rector, sport reintroduced in 1973
At halftime of the senior high football homecoming game featuring the hometown Rector Cougars and the Brinkley Tigers, the athletic department recognized fifty years of football in Rector. This 2023 football season represents the 50th year of football “since the sport was reintroduced in 1973,” according to Ron Kemp who has been involved in Rector athletics for decades and as former editor of the local newspaper, had exclusive information on schedules, victories, along with heritage and tradition.


Lady Mohawks host Newport Greyhounds
Thursday evening Oct. 5, the Lady Mohawks hosted the Newport Lady Greyhounds for an exciting game.

BRTC Foundation holds annual golf tournament
The 30th Annual Proventus/BRTC Foundation Golf Tournament, held Friday, September 29 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas, was a great success, raising record proceeds of over $53,000. Proceeds from the event are used by the BRTC Foundation to fund student scholarships.


Mohawks face tough Osceola team
The Piggott Mohawks hosted the Osceola Seminoles Friday, Sept. 29, at Parker Field inside Hunter Midkiff Stadium.
