BASKETBALL - The Piggott Mohawk basketball teams held their awards ceremony Thursday, May 11, at the PHS cafeteria. Coach Paul Seegraves, Coach Alan Rabjohn, and Coach Scott Dodd gave thanks to all the supporters throughout the season.
The Piggott Baseball Awards were held Friday, May 19 at Cajun Dave’s in Piggott. Coach Shawn Hearn, Coach Scott Dodd, and Coach Brent Gossett thanked all of their supporters throughout the season and introduced the junior high and senior high baseball teams. The meal was provided by Cajun Dave’s.
At the Winter-Spring Athletic Awards event on Tuesday, May 16, held at the Rector Cougar Gym, the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame awarded scholarships to twelve seniors, four $1000 awards, one $750 scholarship, and seven $200 grants toward books and supplies. The two highest awards must have recorded a 3.0 or above academic performance, have shown good citizenship, have demonstrated a measurable degree of community service, and excelled in high school athletic performance.
Taking on Buffalo Island Central (BIC) at Monette on Friday, April 28, the Rector Cougars flexed their baseball muscles in the 2A-North District Tournament, rattling the BIC favorite by a score of 5 – 3 to advance to the Championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
With the 149th Annual Kentucky Derby’s Run for the Roses being held on Saturday, May 6, the Sugar Creek Country Club and Sugar Creek Steak House are planning their own Derby Day in conjunction with this event.
Piggott School District is hosting the 3A-3 District Tournament for girls softball and boys baseball from April 14 through April 28. A good showing of support represented the teams for the first game Monday afternoon.
