FORMER RAZORBACK TO SPEAK IN PIGGOTT

Former Razorback great, C.J. McClain will speak at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott on Saturday, March 11. McClain was a starring linebacker for the Hogs from 19951999. There will be a tailgate type chili supper beginning at 6 p.m. with speakers to follow. This program is for all Piggott athletes from peewee to seniors and is free to attend for everyone thanks to the Mohawk Booster Club. Morgan retires as head men’s basketball coach for University, continues on as athletic director

Harding University’s Jeff Morgan will retire as head men’s basketball coach at the end of the 2022-23 season but will continue serving as the University’s athletic director. Morgan is in his 30th season as head coach at Harding and is the winningest coach in program history with 448 victories.

Piggott Mohawks tournament results, last game for Coach Paul Seegraves

The Piggott Mohawk senior high boys ended their 2023 basketball season at the 3A-3 District Tournament held Monday, Feb. 13 in Osceola. Piggott and Corning met for the fourth time this season and both teams would combine for 20 three point shots. The differ-ence in the game came at the charity stripe. Piggott was 5/ 9 while Corning was 18/29.

Senior night held for basketball, band and cheerleading at RHS

Senior Night at Rector High School took place before the basketball contests pitting two Clay County teams, Rector vs. Corning. The five Cougar concert and marching band members honored comprised a portion of the basketball pep band and the basketball teams each recognized five senior players while the cheer squad, comprised of all underclassmen, honored one senior.

Lady Cougars dominate Lady Bobcats at home

Senior Night for the Lady Cougars came with a strange cake-walk of a game, courtesy of the Corning Bobcat “B” team. The game between the senior varsity teams had been scheduled for the entire season, but the contest became “iffy” when Corning, playing is a different district larger-school alignment, notified Rector Athletics that their “A” squad had played extra games this week because of make-ups and in going into post-season play, they did not want to risk injury. They wished to cancel the game altogether. Because the game was part of senior night celebration for Rector, the Corning coaching staff understood the situation and sent their “B” team so that a game could be played.
