The Bay Yellowjackets basketball teams, their parents and team sponsors invited the Rector Cougars and their faithful followers to combine efforts for the Make a Wish Foundation and the fund raising effort underway. That’s exactly what happened, though the games were postponed until Saturday, Feb 4, at Bay. Local chairman of Make a Wish, Sarah Pruett Boyd, was enthusiastic about the help, support, and fund-raising joint effort through both communities. Rector falls to 19-4 (10-3) with a 61-54 loss at Bay. Kameron Jones led the way with 18 points, Cash Lindsey added 14 and Cooper Rabjohn chipped in 12. The Rector gym was packed, the crowd like what many said they’d not seen in several years. Seismic readings could have recorded shaking, rattling, rolling, and noise detectors buzzed off the chart, showing loud, louder, loudest chants and chomping cheers, “eat ‘em up, eat ‘em up.” Rector Homecoming banners proclaimed intention to shake down the house on rival Marmaduke Greyhounds, the opponent traveling only seven miles along an asphalt road to the Cougar Den.
