Rector Cougars defeated the Cross County Thunderbirds 69-56 in action Friday, Jan. 20. Cooper Rabjohn led the way with 22. Cash Lindsey finished with 15 and Kameron Jones chipped in 14. Rector moves to 17-3 and 8-2 in league play.
The lead in the championship game Saturday, Jan 14, the contest that pitted the reigning champion Rector Cougars against the Bay Yellowjackets switched moment by moment. The Yellowjackets ran up an impressive lead to begin the game, but the Cougars stormed back to erase the deficit.
For the first time in history, Rector will play host to the Class 2A State Basketball Tournament set for Feb. 28--March. 4. The tournament will include 16 boys and 16 girls teams from across the state competing. This is a great opportunity for Rector to showcase their school and community.
Monday, Jan. 9 the Mohawk boys hosted the Bobcats of Walnut Ridge on the home court. Walnut Ridge led the Mohawks 2919 at half time with the Piggott boys not being able to catch up and lost with a score of 71 WR to Piggott’s 47. Nate Brantley led the scoring with 17 points for the night with Shawn-Hudson Seegraves making 12 points and 11 rebounds. William Lucas scored nine, Ashton Lemmons four, Austin Seal and Cole James two and Joe Carpenter scored one.
The Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame inducted Class of 2022 members were presented to the public at halftime of the senior high boys game against Earle on Friday night, Jan. 13.
It’s never an easy game against the high-flying Earle Bulldogs with their physicality and rough play. The senior high girls and boys teams played some of their best basketball Friday night, Jan 13, to come away with wins, making hard, sharp passes and grabbing offensive rebounds for second shot opportunities.
The Cougar band was on hand to add zing to the crowd and drew applause during the varsity games. The fans and cheerleaders enjoyed their fight songs and worked hard to cheer on the Cougar teams.
The Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame will recognize the 2022 inductees on Friday, January 13, during the Rector Cougars and Earle Bulldogs game. At halftime the RHSSHOF class will be introduced and the plaque ceremony conducted.
Piggott Mohawk senior Shawn-Hudson Seegraves accomplished a record of 1000 points in a career just before halftime at the NEA Basketball Tournament played at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro on Tuesday, Dec. 27, against the East Poinsett County Warriors.
