The Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame will recognize the 2022 inductees on Friday, January 13, during the Rector Cougars and Earle Bulldogs game. At halftime the RHSSHOF class will be introduced and the plaque ceremony conducted.
BY JANE GATEWOOD Times-Democrat Sports Staff Rector Cougars took their undefeated record to the NEA Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, and ran into a talented Forrest City Mustang team that launched dead-eye three point baskets all night.
In make-up games against East Poinsett County, it was a long four-game night with both the senior girls and boys teams taking victories with hard nose defense and solid play for the offence. The junior Cougar teams did not fare well.
The Piggott Mohawks hosted the Harrisburg Hornets on Tuesday, Dec. 20, with the senior high losing by a score of 39-71.
Piggott Mohawks traveled to Senath to play in the Senath-Hornersville Christmas tournament last week. On Monday, Dec. 12 the Tribe took on the red-hot Senath Hornersville team, although the team put in a valiant effort the Mohawks lost 53-81. High scorer of the game was Shawn-Hudson Seegraves making 16 points, Ashton Lemmons made 11. Rounding out the scoring was Cole James and Joe Carpenter each had eight points, William Lucas scored six and Kaiden Scudder and Jesus Garcia made two points each.
In a two-day stretch of 2A3 basketball games played at Marmaduke, the Cougar senior high teams notched wins. The Lady Cougars, both junior and senior high squads, recorded wins, the senior high Lady Cougars in a double overtime thriller.
Rector Cougars played unhospitable host over a Thursday and Friday evenings allowing no favor to the visiting BIC Mustangs in both the girls and boys senior high basketball contests. Giving no gifts, allowing no ornaments to be placed on the visitor’s 2A district tree, the Rector Cougars took the highlights on TV and the cheers from fans.
