Piggott High School was buzzing with excitement Thursday night Dec. 9, as the Lady Mohawks basketball team took on long time rivals the Lady Bobcats of Corning.

The senior high Mohawks have played their last few games away starting with their winning over Ridgefield Christian on Dec. 5 with a score of 69-35. Shawn-Hudson Seegraves scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds with Nate Brantley scoring 12 points, Ashton Lemmons scoring seven and Joe Carpenter making six. Rounding out the scoring was Skyler Raymer with five, William Lucas four, Kayden Reel three and Cole James two.
Rector’s Cougar football team brought home the 8Man Football State Runnerup trophy, a large piece of impressive hardware made possible by years of program hard work and support and a group of gutsy, toughnosed football players wearing Cougar blue, representing their town, their school, their families, their coaches, and themselves – their own hard work, courage, determination. Izard County Consolidated won the contest by ten points, the game far closer than the score revealed, Rector 26 – ICC 36.
Piggott Mohawk tennis teams held their annual awards banquet at Los Compadres Nov. 28 recognizing the accomplishments of the boys and girls teams. Coach Paul Seegraves thanked God, his family, the community, the school, parents and most of all the players he has been associated with during his career.

The Piggott girls’ teams took the victories Monday night, Nov. 20 contests at the Piggott Mohawk gym while the Rector boys’ teams won their games Junior High Girls In a close game for both Rector and Piggott squads, the one-point Piggott win illustrated the entire razoredge for the game.
As the Rector Cougars prepare for a trip to Little Rock and the 8-Man Division State Championship game to be played at War Memorial Stadium this Thursday, kick-off at 7:00 p.m., Coach David Hendrix shared the statistics from the semi-final game against Mountain Pine. Rector cheerleaders and band will be making the trip to support the team in the program’s first ever state championship game in football. The team will make the trip on Wednesday, giving them opportunity to get the feel for the stadium, the field, and the atmosphere.
