Rector Cougars escape with win over ICC

With 7:54 remaining in the second quarter, the score between the Rector Cougars and the Izard County Central Cougars was all tied up at 6, the game being a true cat fight. The hometown Cougars were not at their best. Interceptions and turnovers marked the first half with the score knotted at 14 as the teams made their way to their respective halftime huddles.

Shade Trees on Playgrounds program accepting school applications

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division is accepting applications for the 20-year anniversary of the Shade Trees on Playgrounds (STOP) program through Oct. 3, 2022. Arkansas schools needing additional shade on playgrounds can find the STOP program application and guidelines at agriculture.arkansas.gov/ forestry/urban-community- forestry/stop-program/.

Fishing rodeo planned at Heritage Park

A family fishing rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Heritage Park in Piggott. Age Categories are children one to eight years, teen eight to 15 years and adult 16 years and up up. The grand prize in the children category will be a DMF Micro Spin cast dock combo fishing pole, in the teen category the grand prize will be a Lew’s laser lite fishing pole and in the adults the prize is a Lew’s hypersonic speed spin fishing pole.

Mohawks lose to tough Highland team

Friday night, Sept. 9 the Mohawks hosted the Highland Rebels with a loss of 39-0. The Rebels jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 21-0 at halftime. Mohawk defense played well at times with some big stops and hits but could not keep the Rebels out of the end zone. The Rebels tacked on three more touch downs in the third quarter to finish out the scoring.
