AGFC to host free workshop

SPRINGDALE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will host a free one-day workshop for anyone interested in learning about wildlife rehabilitation and the rules concerning rehabilitating native animals in Arkansas at 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. May 21 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center. This workshop was originally planned for February but had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

Rector High School holds annual athletic banquet

A large crowd was in attendance as family and friends gathered at the RHS gymnasium Tuesday, May 10 to honor student athletes of the 2021-2022 school year. As Coach David Hendrix said, “It was a good year to be a Cougar”. All senior high teams advanced to state this year and junior high teams were also very successful. The most prestigious awards given that evening were Male and Female Athlete of the Year given to John Ford Hendrix and Ellie Ford.

HEARN SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT

Pearson Hearn signed his letter of intent to attend Crowley’s Ridge College to continue his passion for baseball. Hearn, the son of Shawn and Crystal Hearn, signed his letter at PHS on Thursday, May 12 at PHS. Hearn’s family, friends and schoolmates were there to show their support and pride in his accomplishment. LEMMONS SIGNS WITH CRC

Piggott High School was the setting for a signing ceremony Thursday, May 12, for senior Nate Lemmons. The son of Emily Lemmons, Nate signed his letter of intent to attend Crowley’s Ridge College and continue his baseball career. Free fishing days to be observed in June

Residents and nonresidents may fish anywhere in Arkansas noon Friday, June 10, until midnight Sunday night, June 12, without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed. An annual tradition sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and approved by Gov. Hutchinson, Free Fishing Weekend gives many people the opportunity to enjoy the amazing angling The Natural State has to offer.

Cougars and Lady Cougars in Regional Tournament play

Whatever clichés fans can slap onto the Rector Cougars baseball wins in the Regional Tournament played Friday – Monday in Carlisle, go ahead. They earned them. Heroes up and down the order lifted the clutch Cougars to a bottom of the seventh win over the Riverside Rebels, 6 – 5, with two outs. The Cougars finished with a third place finish in the Regional Tournament. When the going got tough, the tough got going. That’s the way the game played.

BRTC to offer hunting course through AGFC

Through a partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), Black River Technical College will offer a for-credit Introduction to Hunting course in Fall 2022. During the course, students will complete the AGFC’s Hunter Education Course, learn how to safely discharge a firearm, participate in multiple hunts for wild game species, learn how to field dress and clean harvested game, and learn how to prepare wild game dishes.
