anniversary celebration with a formal banquet held at the Sugar Creek Country Club. The banquet was 1920s themed and among those in attendance were supporters and participants from the 25 year history of the museum. Kelly Baker was sworn in by Mayor Shawn Brandon as the new Rector Chief of Police prior to the monthly council meeting. During the monthly Rector School Board meeting members approved the elementary and high school handbooks. Piggott Health System was presented with the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Coronary Artery Disease Rural Recognition Silver award for their implementation of quality treatment and care coordination for cardiac patients. Steven Sigsby was presented a plaque for his 34 years of service as he retired from the Rector Fire Department. Gracie Casebier, a 2024 RHS graduate, was presented the Clay County Farm Bureau $500 scholar-ship. She is the daughter of Shain and Brittany Casebier of Rector. Sherry Dills was named Grand Marshal for the upcoming Rector Labor Day Parade and a full list of entertainment was announced. Debbie Harrell was appointed city clerk by Mayor Bradley Scheffler at the monthly Piggott City Council meeting. Prior to the regular meeting the council heard from a spokesperson with East Arkansas Planning and Development regarding the CBGD Grant for the water system. Entergy Arkansas donated $1,000 to the City of Rector to benefit the Jeremy McDaniel Memorial Sports Complex. The Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center added four new sculptures to their collection. A songwriters roundtable, which included Chad Garrett, Cory Jackson and Jonathan Bevil, was held at the Ford Room inside the Rector Community Museum. In sports, Piggott High School held their Fall Mohawk Community Pep Rally with a large crowd of parents, relatives, friends and community members as well as athletes, coaches and school personnel on hand. The annual Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame golf tournament is set at the Kennett Country Club and registration was underway for the Labor Day 5K. The Piggott Mohawks held a benefit game against the Westside Warriors with the game ending in a tie.

If it should start in December it was agreed work would start on Cherry Street as to not interfere with the stores in town for their Christmas sales and activities. Work will be done in sections at a time, as not to interfere with business any more than necessary and to provide an alternate entrances to businesses.
