Charles Wesley Grimes

Charles Wesley Grimes, 94, of Rector, passed away on September 27, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born in Guy, Ark., to the late Vernon and Floy (Montgomery) Grimes.

Charles was a man that believed in God, family, community and work. He started out farming in the early years working many long hours. He loved growing watermelons and was always sharing them with everyone. Later he owned his own trucking business and did not retire from this until he was in his 90’s. He and his wife, Peggy, supported the Rector Blackcats and then later the Rector Cougars. They even had special seats at the gym. He was at every game cheering them on until his health decided he needed to slow down. He also was a fan of the Cardinals. He and Peggy were very involved in the Fine Arts Department in Clay County.

He was preceded by his parents: Vernon and Floy Grimes; a son: Mark Grimes; siblings: J.E. Grimes, Derwayne Grimes, Larry Grimes, Iva Lee Hill and Anna Dean Glover.

He is survived by his loving wife: Peggy (Sinko) Grimes who he was married to for 76 years as of September 24; his daughters: Kris and Ronnie Moore and Melissa Tippett of Rector; grandchildren: Jeremy Moore of Port Orchard, Wash., Hayley and Kevin Richardson of Paragould, and Madison Ambrose of Australia; great-grandchildren: Jake Moore, London Moore, Reese Richardson and Audrey Richardson; a brother: Don Grimes of Piggott and a sister: Sue Dawson of Mayflower, Ark., along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2023, at the Evangelical Methodist Church in Hargrave Corner with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Freddie Barker and Kenneth Hargraves officiated the services. Interment was at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Family has asked that all memorials be made to the Evangelical Methodist Church or to Rector Helping Hands Foundation.
