Danny Franklin Cates

Danny Franklin Cates, 75, of Piggott, Ark., passed peacefully in his home, June 15, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1947, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was the son of Roy V. Cates and Josephine Lancaster.

In the 40 plus years of his trucking career, he drove for various companies, including North American, Clarence Mack Trucking, and MFA to name a few.

In his free time he enjoyed playing his guitar, listening to music, especially Elvis Presley, watching westerns, and spending time with his family. He loved wiggling his eyebrows at everyone.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Josephine; two sisters: Marchell Smock and Tammie Cates; and his sons-in-law, Gene Blackwell and Ty Nelson.

Survivors include the love of his life, Brenda Cates of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; three daughters: Kimberly Nelson of Piggott, Kellie Stewart of Walnut Ridge, and Kerri Blackwell of Piggott; five granddaughters: Dani McDonald (Jose) of Piggott, Tabitha McDonald of Rockford, Ill., Madison Blackwell of Pocahontas, Ark., Taylor and Olivia Blackwell of Piggott; brothers and sisters: Ben (Joanne) Jansen of Pocahontas, and Mike (Janice) Jansen of Pocahontas, Vickie Gonzales of Paragould, Ark., Hassie Householder of Piggott, and Joyce Cates of Piggott and many other relatives and friends

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, with Wilburn Griggs officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Pallbearers were Billy Veal, Keith Kimball, Brian Sanders, Erich Smith, Dean Blackwell, and Jose Escobar. Honorary pallbearers were Tyson Stevens, Jakob Stallings, and Kenneth McDonald. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
