Darrell Gene Gossett, 81, of Piggott, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Piggott Community Hospital. He was born August 3, 1942, in Pollard, Ark., to the late Loyd Earl Gossett and Jessalie Settlemoir Toombs.
He was united in marriage to Joan Brent Gossett on July 2, 1977.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Loyd Gossett, KIA in WWII; his mother, Jessalie Toombs; his stepdad, Odell Toombs; and his son, Brock Earl Gossett.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Gossett of Piggott; his daughter, Lorre Gossett Gookin (Gary) of Jonesboro; his son, Justin Gossett (Regina) of Pollard; five grandchildren, Erica Gookin Collins (Chris), Emma Gookin Mason (Taylor), Alex Gookin, Brent Gossett and Riley Jo Gossett; five great-grandchildren, Kinsler, Kolby, Keaton, Liam and Cameron; his sisters, Gay Wegel (Roger) and Sherry Larson (Gary); and many more relatives and friends.
Darrell was a farmer, land leveler, business owner, racehorse owner, and could do anything else he set his mind to. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and listening to gospel music. Darrell also enjoyed singing in many gospel quartets over the years. Darrell and Raymond Dismukes cofounded D&G Plumbing & Heating in the early 1970’s which is still operating today. Darrell was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Piggott where he sang in the choir and served faithfully for many years.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 7 at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home. A celebration of his life was held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Bro. Freddy Bowen and Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard.
Pallbearers were Cliff Winberry, Dan Gossett, Steve Baker, Bradley Dunlap, Gordon Pike, and Wade Smart.
Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Womack, Towny Sparks, Larry McCoy, Donald Grissom and Raymond Dismukes.
