Edna Lenora Dalton

Edna Lenora Dalton, age 89, of Carleton, Mich., went home to be with her Lord, on Sunday October 22, 2023, at Balfour House in Allen Park. She bravely endured Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years.

Lenora was born April 3, 1934, in St. Francis, Ark. She was the daughter of Martin and Hettie Hughes. She married Kenneth Dalton in 1951 in St. Francis. They were blessed three children, Michael, Douglas and Annette. They lived for several years of their married life in New Boston and more recently in Carleton.

Nothing was more important to Lenora than her faith and her family. She was a long-time member of Beacon Baptist Church in Taylor, where she enjoyed attending services and serving in various areas. She was also a Boys and Girls Bible Club teacher in several Downriver schools for many years. She enjoyed teaching Bible stories from flannel graphs that she had painted by hand.

She was a stay-at-home mom who took loving care of her children. After they left home, she attended Monroe Community College and earned an Associate’s Degree in Commerce – Executive Secretarial. She was employed by both Manpower and New Boston Huron Schools.

Lenora loved to travel with her husband and other relatives and church friends. They traveled to the Holy Land three times, and also to Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Hawaii and several other states. She found great pleasure in planning their trips, traveling to beautiful places and then developing hundreds of pictures afterward. She left behind many carefully completed photo albums of trips and special occasions that she had shared with loved ones. Those albums represented her precious memories of interesting places and treasured people.

She was a talented quilter. She made several beautiful quilts that she gave to family members. Her homemade apple pies were also enjoyed by family and friends, and she loved her flower garden at their home in Carleton. In their retirement years, she and her husband often went shopping. Garage sales and thrift shops were her favorites. She said it was “the hunt” that she loved. She acquired an extensive collection of beautiful antique glassware. She was a quiet and kind woman who was a wonderful wife and a caring mother, mother-in-law, grandma and great-grandma. She will be greatly missed.

Lenora leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 72 years, Kenneth; their three children: Michael (Terri) of Carleton; Douglas (Pamela) of Belleville and Annette (Keith) Locklear of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters: Elaine Mobley of Piggott, Ark. and June (Wesley) Rodery of Southgate; six grandchildren: Eric Dalton of Flat Rock; Carrie (Kevin) Furmanek of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada; Jennifer Dalton of Belleville; Nicole Dalton (David DeRousse) of Kalamazoo; Ryan (Jill) Locklear of Newcastle, Okla.; and Chris Locklear of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight great-grandchildren: Evan and Avery Dalton; Courtney and Carter Furmanek; Emma, Levi, Anna and Cole Locklear; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
