Fred Roger Wegel

Fred Roger Wegel, 80, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away September 20, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 18, 1944, in Pollard, Arkansas, and was the son of the late and Julius and Thelma (Baker) Wegel.

Roger was united in marriage to Gay Elaine Toombs on May 28, 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Fred Roger Wegel, II; siblings: Mary Lois Bare, Georgia Lee Neeley, William Earl Wegel and Charles Hoyt Wegel.

He was truly a jack of all trades, spending most of his life working in construction and earning a reputation as someone who could fix just about anything. More than his skills, though, he will be remembered as a godly man, for his faith was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening, shelling pecans, and casting a line while fishing, as well as cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his hardworking spirit, he was a giving and good man-quiet, gentle, and patient in all he did. One of his greatest joys was helping care for his grandchildren, from babysitting and tenderly loving them as only a devoted grandfather could. His life was a testimony of faith, diligence, and kindness, leaving an example for all who knew him.

Roger is survived by his wife Gay Wegel of Piggott; children: Ashley Lane Lyles and husband Kody and Christopher Ross Wegel and wife Christy; grandchildren: Bo Young, Bentley Young, Laken Lyles, Presley Wegel and Annistyn Wegel; and many other relatives and friends.
