Gerald Dee Benson

Gerald Dee Benson

Gerald Dee Benson, known affectionately as Jerry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, in Rector, Arkansas. Born on the Fourth of July in 1967, Jerry’s life began in Wyandotte, Michigan, and his vibrant spirit was a testament to the independence and strength symbolized by his birthdate. He was a beacon of love and ingenuity, leaving a legacy of kindness and skill that touched everyone he knew.

Jerry was a man who could light up a room with his presence, his laughter, and his innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He never met a stranger, and his open heart and helping hands made him a cherished member of his community. His talents were many, but he was best known for his remarkable ability to fix anything that was broken, a skill he applied generously to the objects and the people in his life. Jerry’s greatest accomplishment was being a professionally trained chef, making breakfast every morning for William Clay Ford Jr. at the Ford Motor Company World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

Music was one of Jerry’s greatest passions, and he shared this love with others through his gift of playing the guitar. He was a regular presence at church services, where his music uplifted the spirits of the congregation. Jerry’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and in the love he spread to those around him.

Jerry was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his devoted parents, L.D. (Ronnie) Benson of Southgate, Michigan, and Sharon Braun (Denny) of Sandusky, Ohio. His loving wife, Patricia Marlene Foster Benson, will forever cherish the memories they created together. Jerry’s life was enriched by his siblings, Dennis Benson and Connie of Louisville, Kentucky, David Girard and Tonya of Taylor, Michigan, Brenda Blackerby and Rick of Shepardsville, Kentucky, and Heidi Jones and Mike of Huron Township, Michigan.

Jerry’s capacity for love extended beyond traditional family bonds. He embraced Kayla Duclo as a daughter and Nick Hall as a son, both of whom he loved dearly. His daughter-in-law, Torrie Potter, and her husband, Brandon, held a special place in his heart. Though preceded in death by his children, Josh and Jordan Benson, Jerry’s legacy of love and family will continue to live on through the lives of those he loved and the many special relatives and friends who were an integral part of his life.

Those who knew Jerry would describe him as loving, handy, and interesting—a man whose life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and a multitude of talents. His ability to listen, to share, and to care made him an unforgettable soul, one whose memory will be treasured and whose absence will be deeply felt.

Visitation was held on Monday February 24, 2025 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Irby-Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector. Funeral services followed at 6 p.m. with Bro. Kenny Burns officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Rector Food Pantry in memory of Jerry.
