Leroy Thompson

Leroy Thompson, 78, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 1, 2024, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born on November 6, 1945, in Paragould, Ark., and was the son of the late Junior and Freeda (Phillips) Vowell.

Leroy was a truck driver, traveling many miles over his lifetime.

He was united in marriage to Catherine Joan Thompson on November 25, 1965, and to this union a son, Lance, was born.

Leroy is survived by his son, Lance Thompson of Rector, Ark.; granddaughter, Courtney Thompson of Conway, Ark.; brother, Mike Vowell of Marmaduke, Ark.; sisters, Eleanor Toombs of Lonoke, Ark., Faye Haney of Weatherford, Texas, and Carlene Avery of Youngstown, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott, with Bro. Charles Richardson officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Vowell, Knute Bain, Derek Linam, Russell Scott, Stacey Poole, and Eddie Poole. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Vowell and Don Poole. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
