Naomi Irene Shaffer

Naomi Irene Shaffer was born November 24, 1937, at Greenway, Ark. She died at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Her parents, W.O. and Bessie Shaffer, are deceased.

Naomi was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She taught a Sunday school class at a retirement center for 14 years. She visited several home-bound members of Central Baptist Church. On Saturdays she called bingo at the retirement center. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and she loved reading.

After graduation at Greenway, she moved to Jonesboro. She completed requirements at Jonesboro Business College and graduated. She began work at Arkansas State University in the Department of Education and later she transferred to the Graduate School office and later was the Administrative Assistant. She retired after 41 years of service.

Naomi was preceded in death by her sisters: Ruth Shaffer (Ark.), Sarah Karnes (Mo.), Alyeene Nanney (Ark.), Dorothy Jackson (Ark.), and Nina Long (Mich.). Brothers: John Shaffer (Ark.), and W.O. Shaffer (Wis.). Nieces: Thelma Pennington (Mo.), and Kathy Lakvold (Fla.). Nephews: Craig Crittenden (Ark.), Eugene Nanney (Ark.), Kenneth Karnes (Mo.), Donald Karnes (Mo.), and Marvin Karnes (Mo.).

She is survived by nieces, Ann Crittenden (Ark.), Linda Smith (Ark.), and Debbie Kreuser (Wis.), and nephews, Larry Long (Mich.), and David Jackson (Ark.), and several great nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family received friends on Saturday, May 25th from 10-11 a.m. at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott. The funeral service began at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Larry Bailey from Central Baptist Church, Jonesboro officiating. Interment followed at the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Ark.
