Roy Ray Duty

Roy Ray Duty, 90 of Piggott, Ark., passed away May 8, 2022, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born on May 27, 1931, to the son of the late William Thomas (Bill) and Ida Mae Steward Duty.

Ray was united in marriage to Anna Bell (Parks) Duty on Dec. 9, 1950, and to this union one daughter, Debra Ann (Duty) Massey and one son, Dennis Ray Duty, was born.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke, Ark., prior to that he was a song leader and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott, Ark.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He served as Chief of Police for the City of Piggott in the early 60s. He also ran a gas station, was lunchroom manager for the Piggott School District. He ran a café and managed the Sugar Creek Country Club along with his wife Ann for several years.

Before fully retiring, he owned two car washes. He always wanted to know how everyone was doing, he was a caring man and will be missed by many including his extended family at the VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo., where he lived for the past few years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas (Bill) and Ida Mae Duty; his wife Ann Parks Duty; three brothers, Edwert, Charlie and Jim Duty; two sisters, Kathelyn Duty and Kay Duty Skaggs.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Duty of Piggott, Ark.; one son, Dennis Duty (Shelly) of Jonesboro, Ark.; one daughter, Debra Massey (Larry) of Piggott, Ark.; one step-daughter, Tracy Ballard (Joe) of Piggott, Ark.; six grandchildren, Hunter Duty (Caitlin) of Jonesboro, Ark., Rachel Duty Young (Jeremy) of Paragould, Ark., Nicole Duty Close (Corbin) of Alabaster, Ala., Matthew Ballard of Jonesboro, Ark., Angie Webb of Paragould, Ark., and Allen Massey (Daphne) of Oak Grove, Ark.; eight great-grandchildren, River Young, Raylee Young, Keaton Massey (Hannah), Aspen Webb (Dawson Greer), Emily Webb all of Paragould, Ark., Brittany Schmidt (Erik) of San Diego, Calif., Brent Massey (Natalie) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Zach Childers (Blakely) of Rector, Ark.; eight greatgreat grandchildren, Lucas, Leah, Leon, Rylee, Lane, Brantley, Oakley and Parker; and a host of family and friends.
