Thomas Delbert Hill, Jr.

Thomas “Thom” Delbert Hill, Jr. was born in Paragould, Ark. on October 27, 1947. He passed away peacefully on February 27, 2022 in Vancouver, Wash.

Thom was a friendly, oldfashioned country boy, and he never met a stranger. Thom always pulled over to help stranded motorists and taught his children how to change a tire before handing over the keys to the family car. He was a leader in his son’s Cub Scout and Boy Scout groups and served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 134 in Fort Ord, Calif. He loved playing board games with his grandchildren, especially Trivial Pursuit where he reigned supreme in the History category.

Thom was a decorated Army veteran with over 20 years of service, including combat tours in Vietnam. He retired and moved back to his favorite duty station in Vancouver, Wash. He enjoyed working his “retirement job” at Costco, and playing darts and watching games with friends at the local pubs. On weekends, you would find him tinkering with his airplane and enjoying the view from 5,000 feet.

Thom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Delbert Hill Sr. and Frances Eugenia Winchester Hill Copeland. Thom is survived by his sister Sandra Sisler; children Sean Hill, Bree (Andrew) Grillo-Hill; niece Leandra Ashburn; grandchildren Davis Grillo-Hill and Evan Grillo-Hill, and great-nieces Caroline Ashburn and Isabelle Ashburn.

Services including full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 at the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, Ark. In lieu of flowers or donations, please perform an act of kindness for a stranger today in memory of Thomas Hill.
