Black River Technical College is pleased to announce the students who have been named to the President’s and Deans’ List for the fall semester of 2023. Local students on the President’s List include Elizabeth Spinks and Joshua Bland of Piggott; Misty Martin of Rector; Britton Wofford, Sara Roland, Carson Robinson and Minnie Mason of Marmaduke and Destiny Leonard and Joseph Bradish of Corning.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) will lead a trip to Cuba this spring. The trip will begin on Saturday, May 25, and continue through Saturday, June 1.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center is currently taking applications for student volunteers for 2024. Any interested Clay County junior and senior high school students may call the museum at 870598-3487 for more information.
Dr. Les Johnson will be the guest speaker for a program planned at the Eclipse Block Party Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. There will be a $10 admission which will include eclipse glasses and an eclipse box of treats. The viewing site will be held on the grounds across from the museum. Those attending are encouraged to bring your lawn chair and set up will begin at 9 a.m.
Rector High School College and Career program led by College-Career Coach Kathy Fowler initiated the College-Career Fair, a first for Rector High School as host. Multiple local and areawide businesses and colleges set up displays offering oneon- one interaction, informational literature and promotional items in the mezzanine of the Rector gym.
The Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, Jan. 22, at the courthouse in Piggott. Members present were Justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, Brad Green and Randy Kingston. Justices David Cagle, David Hatcher, George Lowe and Neal Smith were absent.
Arkansas Tech University has announced its Dean’s List for undergraduate students on its Russellville campus for the fall 2023 semester and among those listed were Ashlyn E. Mills of Piggott and Zoe Elizabeth Massey of Marmaduke, both with a 4.0 grade point average.

Gary Boozer of Piggott and Maranda Bear of Marmaduke were recently named to Williams Baptist University President’s List for the 2023 fall semester. The President’s List includes those full-time students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
