JR Rogers purchases former dinner theater

In the aftermath of the devastating 2017 flood that wreaked havoc on Randolph County and the subsequent global COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the Imperial Dinner Theatre on Highway 304 in Pocahontas has stood as a haunting reminder of the two crises. However, hope has dawned on this inactive structure as local musician and entrepreneur JR Rogers stepped in to breathe new life into the decaying theater.

HPMEC plans Eclipse Block Party, Dr. Les Johnson set as guest speaker

Dr. Les Johnson will be the guest speaker for a program planned at the Eclipse Block Party Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. There will be a $10 admission which will include eclipse glasses and an eclipse box of treats. The viewing site will be held on the grounds across from the museum. Those attending are encouraged to bring your lawn chair and set up will begin at 9 a.m.

My Valentine’s Shoppe planned

My Valentine’s Shoppe event is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Piggott Community Center located at 161 E. Pfeiffer St. Photography, crafts, food, and much more will be offered along with raffling of prizes. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Feb. 10. Baine graduates from ACC Leadership Institute

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Brad Baine recently graduated from the 2023 class of the Arkansas Community College’s (ACC) Leadership Institute “Attending and participating in the Arkansas Community Colleges Leadership Institute was a very beneficial and rewarding experience. It allowed me the opportunity to connect with outstanding leaders from all across Arkansas,” said Baine. “The leadership program was filled with strategic sessions that allowed me to grow as a professional and become a better leader. I am grateful for the Arkansas Association of Community Colleges executive leadership team and the high-quality leadership program that they are offering professionals of higher education.“ According to arkansascc.org, the ACC Leadership Institute, established in 2008, has provided leadership, administration, and advocacy training to approximately 300 emerging community college leaders in Arkansas. Many of their graduates have gone on to become college presidents and chancellors, vice presidents and chancellors, and other key community college administrators. This event is open to ACC members who are nominated by their institution’s president or chancellor.Approximately 24 people attend this annual, multi-session event.
