
Local golf teams compete in District, headed for State Tournament

The Piggott tennis teams have had a busy schedule during the first part of September.
A fundraising event will be held at Sugar Creek Country in Piggott, hosted by the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center, in conjunction with a reading retreat. Tickets are available for the club reception, featuring special guest Tim Huffman, an esteemed outdoor writer with 37 years of experience and native of Piggott.
The Piggott Mohawks played host to the Cross County Thunderbirds on Friday, Sept. 12 at Parker Field inside Hunter Midkiff Memorial Stadium.
The Rector Cougars suited up against the Marshall Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 12, bringing with them a resolve to notch a win into the record book. The momentum started for Rector when the team looked at a fourth down and Marshall was flagged, bringing Rector to 2nd and goal. Kason Jetton could not quite hold on to a pretty pass from Chance Lopez. It was Lopez facing a 3rd down, prepared to run behind Colt Reddick. Another flag for holding was levied against Rector but Rector moved the ball. The down and distance was 3rd and goal from the 13 yard line and all of a sudden, Rector went ahead 8 to 6.
Rector Cougars played host to neighboring Corning Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 5 as an opening game for both schools with both the junior and senior high teams competing on a beautiful night for football.
Reasons for the superior turnout for the Rector Helping Hands Foundation 5K are numerous starting with fabulous weather with a great breeze and high temperatures hovering in the low 80’s. Record participants numbered close to 250 with actual runners and walkers crossing the Stearns Timing Pad registering at 239.
Piggott Mohawk tennis teams started their season off facing some very tough opponents. On Thursday, Aug. 14 they played host to Tuckerman losing both the boys and girls team match. Houston Dunlap and Kyler Reel and Ty Little and Mason Mowery won their doubles match.
